Newton Legal Lawyers Awarded HRH Prince Salman Medal for Medical Merit

Managing Partner Aamal Al Abbasi and Senior Associate Maryam Kamal have been awarded the HRH Prince Salman Medal for Medical Merit. The Medal was issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa through a Royal Decree, granting it to the Kingdom’s frontline medical professionals and support staff, as a way to recognise their work in mitigating the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Medal comes after Newton Legal acted as lead counsel to the Government of Bahrain in their supply agreements amidst negotiations with medical suppliers in relation to the delivery of Covid-19 vaccines. More specifically, the firm advised on the manufacturing and supply of the vaccines Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Pfizer, and Covidshield to the Kingdom. Bahrain is now the second country in the world after the United Kingdom to authorize emergency usage of the coronavirus vaccine by Pfizer and BioNTech. The revolutionary mRNA vaccine helps the immune system fight against the virus by recognizing the protein that usually lies on the virus’ surface through the use of the genetic material contained within the vaccine.
