Newton Legal and BBBF Host Panel Discussion on Start Ups

January 16, 2018

The Bahrain British Business Forum hosted a BBBF “Legal” Special Interest Group (SIG) panel discussion, in partnership with Newton Legal Group at the Capital Club. BBBF members and their guests were introduced to a panel of experts that discussed the commercial and legal aspects of startups and accelerators in the Kingdom.

The panel of leading industry experts were: Sabah Al Moayyed, Managing Partner at Intellect Resources Management; John Kilmartin, Executive Director at Bahrain Economic Development Board; Yasin Aboudaoud, Chief Executive Officer at Brinc MENA; Aamal Al Abbasi, Managing Partner at Newton Legal Group and Hadyah Fathalla, Executive Director at C5 Accelerate.

The panel was moderated by Noor Alkhulaif of Newton Consult. The panel discussed the rapid development in “startup” businesses in Bahrain and the role that the “accelerators” play in order to support and develop them. It also considered the importance of the startup “ecosystem” to Bahrain’s economy, ways to grow it and the key challenges it faces which the Kingdom has already started to address.

The panel discussion was well attended by members of the BBBF, who also had the opportunity to develop their understanding of the commercial contracts and other legal protections critical to the development of the startup sector as well as learn of recent developments in the regulation that the government and the Central Bank of Bahrain have introduced.

Newton Legal Group will continue to sponsor the series of Legal SIG events in conjunction with the BBBF throughout the year.
