ExperienceNicholas Williams is a Partner of Newton Legal and works closely with a number of key clients including Bapco, Bafco, nogaholding and Mumtalakat.

Nicholas is a company commercial lawyer with particular experience in the energy & infrastructure sector.

Until joining Newton Legal in 2015 he was a partner at Simmons & Simmons where he worked for over thirty years in their offices in London, the UAE and Paris. He has lived and worked in the Middle East for over 10 years and has worked on matters in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

In Bahrain, his experience includes advising on

  • nogaholding’s Global Medium-Term Note Issue
  • The new jet fuel concession agreements and related construction matters at the Bahrain International Airport
  • The disposal of a shipping company
  • The acquisition of a Bahrain manufacturing company
  • The establishment of a gasoline blending joint venture and commercial agreements in connection with a number of projects including the Bapco Modernization Program and the Bahrain liquefied natural gas terminal.

In Europe, Nicholas advised one of the supermajors including on the disposal of its European refineries and service stations. He advised Teesside Gas & Liquids Processing, which processes ten per cent of the UK’s gas, on a wide range of agreements including gas processing, pipeline development and operation and maintenance.

In the GCC, Nicholas advised the UAE sponsor on the development of the Dolphin gas pipeline from Qatar to the UAE and Oman; one of the Northern Emirates on a long-term oil and gas concession agreement; a GCC based multinational on the development of petrochemicals plant in Yanbu, KSA and the sponsors of a world-scale mine and refinery project in KSA.

In the infrastructure industry, Nicholas advised one of the bidders to operate the Al Sufouh tram project in Dubai and a quasi government body on the procurement of aerospace defence equipment and on-sale to the Abu Dhabi General Head Quarters

Nicholas is a member of the team that heads the Legal Special Interest Group of the Bahrain British Business Forum.

  • Bachelor of French (BA Hons) – University of Warwick, United Kingdom (graduated 1979)
  • Common Professional Exam (CPE) and Law Society Finals – College of Law, London, United Kingdom (graduated 1981-83)
  • Qualified as a Solicitor of England & Wales since 1985
  • Admitted to the Paris bar while in France (1994)
